Nasal Deviation Surgery; The nasal septum is a wall dividing the nasal cavity in the middle. Its anterior part consists of cartilage, and its posterior part consists of bone structure. Under normal conditions, the septum should be positioned in the midline; however, it is not the case in most people who usually have slight curvatures.
Such slight curvatures do not cause complaint because they do not cause serious respiratory problems. If the curvature of the nasal deviation surgery bone or cartilage is moderate or advanced level, it will definitely lead to serious respiratory problems, which increase with age and weight gain.
Such curvatures of the bone and/or cartilage structures in the nose are called septum deviation. It is diagnosed through an ENT examination and its definitive treatment is surgery. The surgical operation performed for this purpose is called septoplasty or SMR.

Septoplasty (Deviated Septum Surgery)
Septoplasty is a simple surgical procedure that takes about 30 to 40 minutes and does not cause swelling, bruising and any other undesirable visual changes. Usually perforated silicone pads are placed inside the nose. In some cases, it is not even necessary to place such pads.
If a pad is placed, it is left inside the nose for only 1 day. The patient can go home the same day after or the next day after surgery. He/she can return to work after 2-3 days of rest. Since there will be scab formation inside the nose for 2 to 3 weeks, nasal sprays, drops and nasal washes are definitely recommended for this period.
Which season is suitable for its performance?
There is no season to recommend for this surgical procedure. It can be performed in any season. The patient can even go to the sea 4-5 days after the operation in the summer season.
In conjunction with septoplasty, the enlarged conchae are reduced by burning with radiofrequency technique. Similarly, if the patient has sinusitis according to the result of a simple preoperative sinus tomography, the sinuses should be opened in the same surgical session.
Does nasal septum deviation recur after surgery?
Nasal septum deviations corrected by the right hands and with the right technique never recur. Septoplasty operations will be a good investment for heart and sleep health, especially if they are performed at a young age. Nose-related surgeries, including rhinoplasty, can be performed at 17-18 years of age at the earliest.
