Conditions To Be Considered After Nose Surgery
After the nose aesthetic surgery, the nose remains in plaster for a week, we strongly recommend staying away from crowded places, especially in the first three days during this period. After removing the plaster after the first week, we tape it again for a week, during this period, the patient can go out, walk, walk, drink coffee, tea, socialize, but crowded places, especially places where there may be close contact, should be avoided. Then, starting from the second week, the patient can return to his daily life very easily, even in the first week, but the first 3 months that must be done must not wear sunglasses, the nose must be protected from the sun and we recommend regular sunscreen, smoking should be avoided for a minimum of 10 days if possible, our patient can return to his normal lying position from the third week, again from the third week, he can start light sports that do not contain a lot of weight, we want a minimum of 6-8 weeks to pass in close contact sports such as heavy sports weight lifting gymnastics. From the tenth day onwards, you can swim in the sea without sticking your nose in your face, and I recommend the pool after the third week. We want our patients to use the nasal spray and drops we give to our patients for about 1 month, and I recommend the creams used on the tip of the nose for about 2 months, and if we have given a hole equalizer (retainer), we recommend it to use it for 2 months. I see and photograph my own patients regularly in the first month, third month and first year at certain intervals after surgery (if the patient lives in the same province), but we ask our patients coming from abroad to send photos at certain intervals.
- In the 1-2 postoperative days, there may be mild pain that can be controlled with mild painkillers. After the third day, at the latest, there will be no need for painkillers.
- There may be perforated silicone pads required to be kept in the nose, usually for a period of time ranging from 3 to 4 days. During this period, there may be slight leakage at the tip of the nose and the patient may have to breathe through the mouth occasionally, but this is a condition. From the moment the tampons are removed, you can feel that you are able to breath more comfortably and more easily.
- Ocean water sprays, especially vitamin-containing oily drops and washings to be used as soon as the tampons are removed will accelerate the recovery and enable the patient to feel the expansion of the nasal airway. In fact, a “breathing nose” is essential for an ideal rhinoplasty operation. Applying these sprays and drops at certain intervals for a period of 2-3 weeks after surgery will keep the nose constantly open and moist.
- In the first 3 postoperative days, the patient should abstain from blowing his/her nose as much as possible, and activities that can increase intra-abdominal pressure (such as straining) should be avoided.
- 3 hours after surgery, the patient should consume light watery foods, but the next day he/she can begin to consume normal foods, including solid foods. In general, we recommend drinking plenty of water and eating pulpy foods as much as possible for the first 7-10 postoperative days.
- The day after surgery, a warm shower can be taken, on condition that the plaster on the nose is kept in its place. Even if the plaster gets wet, it will not be a problem.
- There may be swelling and bruising around the eyes, which will reach the peak level on the 2nd postoperative day. That peak level can vary from person to person and depends on the skin structure. Too much swelling and bruising doesn’t mean things are going bad, just as mild swelling and bruising doesn’t mean things are going well. In addition, the Piezo device and saw-style bone crushers, which we have been using more and more in recent years, have reduced these swelling and bruise to minimum levels. In order to reduce swelling, it will be good to apply cold gel or ice compresses for the first 24 hours after the surgery and to lie down with the head elevated 30 degrees. The bruises begin to disappear on the 3rd postoperative day and almost completely heal on the 7-10th day.
- On the 7th postoperative day, the plaster is removed and the patient is relieved with intranasal dressing. Then, the patient is examined and the intranasal dressing is renewed at certain intervals in the first month. The swelling considerably decreases in the first 1 month, but the nose takes its exact shape in the 6-8th month after the surgery. In this process, there may be mild swelling and asymmetries that no one other than the doctor and the patient can notice.
- The nose should be protected from direct sunlight as much as possible (with a protective cream or hat) and glasses should not be worn in the first 3 months after surgery. If the patient has to wear prescription glasses, he/she should use lenses for the first 3 months. After the operation, patients are examined and photographed at regular intervals.
